Several members of the Graduate School of Geosciences (GSGS) at the University of Cologne attended the EGU General Assembly 2026 between 3rd and 9th of May in Vienna, representing different disciplines within our school.
The week offered a rich program of scientific sessions, with our members presenting their research and engaging with the wider geoscience community. True to the spirit of EGU, many of the most memorable moments came from unexpected encounters — insightful sessions outside one's own field and spontaneous conversations between talks.
On Wednesday evening, 10 GSGS members came together for dinner at the “Strandcafé an der Alten Donau” — a venue that has already become a small tradition from the previous year. The relaxed setting gave everyone a chance to reflect on the week and exchange their impressions across disciplinary boundaries, a reminder of the value of a graduate school that brings together researchers from different branches of geosciences.
We already look forward to next year’s conferences.
