In September 2024, I attended the 26th Electromagnetic Induction Workshop (EMIW) in Beppu, Japan. The EMIW is the only international conference focused solely on the electromagnetic methods of geophysical research, which are the core research topics of the Applied Geophysics working group at the University of Cologne. This provided an ideal opportunity to present the final stages of my PhD project on a poster and learning about the research at other institutions worldwide.
The biannual workshop was held in Beppu, Japan, and many of presented works were focused on volcanoes. Matching this theme, the excursion I participated in led us to the Aso Volcano. It was my first visit to an active volcano and it was fascinating to see an example of the research target of many other geophysicists and see a landscape so different from Germany.
I am very grateful to the GSGS and the EMIW Financial Support Committee who supported me to visit this workshop. It sparked many new thoughts and ideas regarding my current work and my future.
