What is peer-to-peer training?
Peer-to-peer training is sharing knowledge and skills between peers. One person knows how to use a certain method, tool or computer programme, or has other knowledge that is worth sharing.
Who is it for?
This platform is for doctoral candidates who are GSGS members. It is currently in a test phase. Any feedback is welcome!
What should the training be like?
The format of peer-to-peer training is in principle open. For example, two peers could offer some training jointly.
In principle, offers should be made in English; if no non-German speakers sign up, training can be offered in German.
The GSGS will
- offer support in the preparation and execution phase wherever possible,
- ask the proposing trainer to provide an overview of the learning outcomes they aim for, and
- monitor the training itself.
How does offering training work?
- Doctoral candidates advertise their know-how and skills on this platform, using the online proposal form. The offer can be named or anonymous (the GSGS office will know their name).
- The offer should be open to all GSGS members, but if necessary, certain prerequisites for attending and a minimum and a maximum number of participants can be set.
- The GSGS office puts suitable offers on this page and other members can sign up through the GSGS.
- The GSGS office helps to find (a) suitable time(s) and venue for the training, and will help to organise it.
How can I put in a request for training?
- Use the online proposal form to say what skill or knowledge you are looking for. The request can be named or anonymous (the GSGS office will know your name).
- Please be as precise as possible.
- It helps if there are multiple people with the same request (give their names in the remarks section).
- The GSGS office puts the requests on this page and other members can offer training in reaction or endorse the request. In the latter case, your name will be added to the list of interested people for that particular request.
- In some cases, the GSGS can decide to organise a regular course, if no (suitable) peer trainer can be found.

Your peers may help you out next time.
You collect relevant training experience, which can be listed on your GSGS certificate.
You get tripple the GSGS points that attendants of your training get.

| Details: | Day 1: basic principles of document preparation system LaTeX. - short introduction to its syntax
- formatting texts,
- including float elements such as graphics and tables,
- building and using own commands,
- create nice-looking equations, and much more.
Day 2 is the more creative part of the workshop. You will apply and enhance your knowledge of day one in daily researchers situations: how to cite, create posters and presentations, and much more. | Detailed description: | Is it your first time teaching and you are not sure how to do it properly? Do you have inactive students and get no answers to questions? Do students complain about the amount of work they have to do? What can you do?
This workshop gives a basic introduction into how teaching and learning can be organized to avoid the problems mentioned above. Further, it will provide you with possibilities to design an attractive learning environment that motivates students. The approaches follow the "Bologna Process" fostering competence orientated education. |
